ST. PETERSBURG -- The Tampa Bay Rays are reportedly finalizing a deal with outfielder Pat Burrell.
Sources said Burrell has agreed in principle to a two-year, $16 million contract with the Rays, pending a physical.
Burrell, who batted .250 with 33 home runs in 2008 for the world champion Philadelphia Phillies, will serve as designated hitter for the runner-up Rays.
The Phillies declined to retain Burrell, their top overall draft pick on 1998, instead signing free-agent Raul Ibanez from Seattle.
