POLK COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- The Florida Highway Patrol says it will take one to three months to wrap up a fatal crash investigation and to determine if any charges will be filed.
The crash occurred about 5 p.m. Sunday, at the intersection of Scenic Highway and US Highway 27 in Frostproof.
Troopers say a Dodge Ram, driven by 33-year-old Mitchell Hilkemeyer, ran a red light and slammed into a Chevy, killing a 6-month-old and critically injuring the baby's mother, Nicole Pounds, 34, of Sebring, Fl.
Pounds remains in intensive care and is in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Pounds' 7-year-old-son, Isaiah Wiggins, was treated at a hospital and released. Pounds' boyfriend's mother, 53-year-old Harriet McClennon, and her niece, 10-month-old Passion McClennon, were also treated and released.
Their injuries had been listed as serious on an FHP crash report.
Hilkemeyer, from Missouri, was not injured.
